Plywood, the Media and Cops Gone Mad

Make Money!: We have realized a sure bet money making scheme, legal at that. Sell plywood in Florida. Everytime there is a threat of a hurricane, the media has a field day camped out at Floridian Lowes', Home Depot's and the like with new footage of the same old thing: people buying plywood. What happened to the 9 pieces they got last year? It's peak hurricane season in the most hurricane prone state in the world and they are out buying up batteries, water and wood now??? Where does the wood go? To make national election ballot box partitions? And if there was a Hurricane Chad, would it come right at them or hang off the coast for a month?

"Apple don't fall far, cats in the kittens" Department: The govenor of Florida is of the same gene pool of the most useless, pathetic thing ever to live at 1600 PA so it makes sense that he is NOW, on Monday, imploring people to prepare for "3 days of inconvenience". If he knows as much about hurricanes as his brother does about why we are in Iraq, well... you get the picture. (At least our govenor would call in ex-actress gov Jane Swift as a consultant to heli-vac the poplulace to her farm).

Anyway, it's sad to see the media frenzy about 2 things: that the former "beauty queen" (we choose to keep her unnamed) still doesn't have a killer and the air marshalls who have planes land at an unknown destination because a business man said he got "bombed" last night. The frenetic display of macho cop-o-filia when an unarmed 94 year old man who wanted to off himself after his wife died says it all: 45 stormtrooper riot police were sent to his house! Forty freakin' five. Makes you want to enlist.

Blog vs. Forum format

When we decided to get into the interactive expression arena on CapeAnnMass.com, we had 2 choices: Blog vs. Forum. We surfed many blogs and monitored the 'local forums' quite a bit for 3 months but had been involved with them (forums) for almost 2 years when we made the decision in August to go with the blog.

We made our decision based on the voracity of posts on the 'local forum'. We appreciate open communication, freedom of speech and opinion as much as the next Republican (oops) but feel that there is no need to add to the many walks of life that the 'local forum' attracts and would like to confine our content to the best website on Cape Ann not ending in "Commerce" and topics related to the selling of Cape Ann, the ruinous mismanagement of various components of local government and the GD Times.

While we like the Gloucester Daily Times for the obits and other calamitious adventures in wanna-be journalism and editorial kindergarten, we will often spew our disregard for the obvious hanging chad fix in the Newspaper of the Year claim they stake. (I mean, what newspaper makes that claim on the same page that they report 4 different final scores in a story about a GHS girls softball playoff game?)

Cape Ann Mass website improvements

• Well, in the past week or so I have been busy redesigning a lot of the CapeAnnMass.com website. Pages redone and improved via additional links were the weather links page, the tropics page. The front main index page has lots of new graphics, links and look to it. I have combined all the "Directory" links onto one simple page which as best I can tell is the largest and most complete listing of local links anywhere for the area and really easy to use.
• The North Shore Commuter site was redone last month and has been utilized about 30% more than before. It still needs another page for universal links me thinks.
• I am working on the total redesign of RockportMass.com as well as several other exciting aspects of the main site which I will keep buttoned up at this time.
